Senior Electrical Technologist (Level 5 or 6)

Working closely with the Project Manager, Team Leader, and Branch Manager, leading on various projects, and maintaining the technical competence and production requirements of the discipline.


Specific Responsibilities Include:

  • Analyze existing data to forecast business decision regarding budget forecasting, budget variances, client profitability, risk management and report findings to the Project Manager as appropriate.
  • Work as the Project Manager, Relationship Manager or Technical Specialist to provide our clients with finished projects in a timely manner.
  • Plan or review projects requiring the expenditure of a considerable amount of manpower and financial investment.
  • Determine basic operating standards, and accomplish objectives in the most economical manner to manage unusual conditions.
  • Understand and participate in resolving issues with cost control, non-recoverable expenditures, and utilization.
  • Communicate effectively with team members.
  • Act as a mentor/coach to staff.
  • Stay current with changes in own discipline and share expertise with other offices.
  • Work with others to increase the overall technical competence of the discipline.
  • Identify completed projects in your discipline that are eligible for technical awards, ensure projects are submitted.
  • Work with Project Managers, Engineering Managers, Relationship Managers and Regional Directors to secure large multi-company projects.
  • Actively perpetuate and clarify WEC culture, design quality and values.
  • Build and maintain a well developed network of colleagues for solving unique engineering problems.
  • Preparation of the following project documentation:
    • Drawings and specifications
    • Addendums
    • change orders
    • equipment supply contracts
    • site instructions
  • Prepare engineering design, specification and/or recommendations for a variety of the following:
    • life safety systems
    • lighting systems
    • low tension building systems engineering
    • low voltage power systems
    • high and medium low voltage power systems
    • grounding
    • security systems
    • control systems
    • hazardous area classification
    • commissioning of electrical systems
    • energy analysis and management


  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or Diploma in an Electrical Engineering Technology program.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in buildings preferably local experience.


  • Experience with AutoCAD, Revit and AGi32 is preferred.
  • Experience using the Canadian Electrical Code and BC Building Codes is required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; a person who listens well, respects diversity of opinions and has an open, clear and succinct communication style.
  • Effective organizational and time management skills in handling multiple projects, performing a variety of tasks, and meeting required deadlines.
  • Ability to represent the company to the staff, clients and community by ensuring the best image is presented.
  • Understanding and ability to apply marketplace trends to create and implement a marketing plan.
  • Holds a senior position in technical or business association.
  • Understands other discipline’s design such as mechanical, structural and architectural.
