    Reports to: Branch Manager and Engineering Director


    Position Purpose: Responsible for: providing strategic direction to the discipline, cross-discipline marketing and business development, and developing a strong team to support the ongoing growth of the organization.


    This role serves as an integral link between the Branch Manager and the Engineering Director by providing both inter-disciplinary coordination and discipline leadership at the regional level.



    Service Line Accountabilities – Workload Management and Engineering Quality

    Regional Accountabilities - Client Relationships and Operational Management

    Overseeing the design process provide effective options and solutions to design problems, mitigating WEC’s exposure and protecting client relationships.


    Lead the preparation of proposals for major projects.

    In conjunction with the Branch Administrator and Engineering Managers, develop standards and procedures for, quality, efficiency, safety, cost reduction, client service and ensure they are followed by your discipline.


    Support the development of lasting relationships with clients.


    Working with the Engineering Director and other Team Leads, forecast workload for staffing targets and determine ideal staff mix.


    Communicate effectively with clients to identify needs and evaluate alternative solutions.

    Manage cost and time components of the discipline to ensure profitability.

    Continually seek opportunities to increase customer satisfaction and deepen client relationships.


    Actively contribute to a culture of peer review.

    Participate in the recruitment and termination of staff.

    Provides leadership to the development and maintenance of IQMS and CAD standards.

    Manage, motivate, train, mentor, and discipline direct reports according to company policies and guidelines.


    Coordinates with the Project Managers to ensure that project budgets and schedules are achieved.

    Employees are required to adhere to the company and client safety policies and practices in effect at any given time.

    Develop direct reports’ Career Paths and provide performance appraisals, with input from the Regional Director and Engineering Director.




    • P.Eng. or C.E.T. designation, or other designation related to Sustainability such as C.E.M.
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or diploma in Engineering Technology or field related to sustainability.
    • 10+ years experience in Consulting Engineering or related field.
    • Experience in a leadership, supervisory or mentorship role.


    • Excellent interpersonal skills; a person who listens well, respects diversity of opinions and has an open, clear and succinct communication style.
    • Ability to facilitate team and client meetings effectively.
    • Make presentations during project design phase to design team and for business development purposes.
    • Effective organizational, time, and project management skills in handling multiple priorities, performing a variety of tasks, and meeting required deadlines.
    • A results-oriented and decisive individual with the ability to delegate effectively.
    • Experience and good judgement to plan and accomplish ambitious but achievable goals.
    • A people-oriented leader with a reputation for successfully attracting, mentoring and motivating a team.
    • Understands basic revenue models, P/L, and cost-to-completion projections and makes decisions accordingly.
    • Lead and develop quality program for Sustainability Consulting Service Line.


    • The ability to recognize and accurately define problems and solutions by collecting data and establishing facts to draw valid conclusions.
    • Possesses strong understanding in at least one sustainability field of practice such as energy audits and retro-commissioning.
    • Write sustainability consulting reports that do not require significant editing
    • Coordinate with all disciplines, extract and relay relevant information for complex problems.
    • Working knowledge of building codes and mechanical building systems Knowledge of other disciplines such as site utilities, electrical, structural, architectural, and building envelope would be an asset.
    • Building performance modeling for various building types such as new and existing commercial, institutional, hospital and mixed-use residential buildings.
    • Modeling and research of new building design strategies.
    • Preparation of building analysis reports and LEED documentation to present results of energy and thermal modeling, greenhouse gas emissions analysis, and research findings.
    • Comprehensive knowledge and experience in various energy standards and codes including NECB, ASHRAE 90.1 and LEED.
    • Extensive experience in various energy modeling software such as IES, EQuest, EE4, etc.
    • Understanding of engineering economics to perform financial analysis of alternatives.
    • Familiarity with current and emerging energy and design standards such as Net Zero and Passivhaus design principles and requirements, as well as step code regulations.


    • Strong contacts in the sustainability and engineering community.
    • Ability to represent the company to the staff, clients and community in the best possible image.
    • Development relationships with the clients, the City and regulatory personnel and active participations in various relevant associations, meetings and professional events.
    • Responsible for the development and growth of the practice side of the Sustainability teams & to develop business for the company.
    • Work collaboratively with others to grow WEC’s business in Western Canada and the Arctic.
    • Assist with recruitment and attraction of new employees.
