    **Preferrably this position will be based in Calgary or Edmonton. However, we will consider the successful candidate in Vancouver, Abbotsford or Victoria.

     

    Position Purpose: Working closely with the Project Manager, assisting on various projects, and contributing to the technical competence and production requirements of the discipline. Provides exceptional customer service and coordination assistance with internal and external project partners (consultants, contractors, etc.).

     

    Specific Responsibilities Include:

    • Work with the Team lead/ Project Manager/ Engineering Manager in providing our clients with finished projects in a timely manner.
    • Communicate effectively with the Project Manager; this includes collecting and coordinating useful information.
    • Maintain a working relationship with other staff.
    • Provide Energy Analysis expertise to clients and team members as follows:
      • Collaborate in an integrated design team to identify appropriate design strategies geared towards improving energy performance, indoor air quality, and thermal comfort throughout building project duration.
      • Support various project staff including project manager/engineer/designer in energy and thermal modeling and research of new building design strategies.
      • Model building performance for various building types such as new and existing commercial, institutional, hospital and mixed-use residential buildings.
      • Prepare various presentations during project design phase to design team and for business development to the clients.
      • Prepare building analysis reports and LEED documentation to present results of energy and thermal modeling, greenhouse gas emissions analysis, and research findings.
    • Participate in discussions with client, as required.
    • Gaining an understanding of quality control.
    • Depending on level of mechanical design experience, may under supervision, prepare engineering design, specification and/or recommendations for a variety of the following:
      • HVAC
      • energy analysis
      • equipment selection and specification
      • fuel systems
      • high and low pressure piping
      • mechanical design details
      • plumbing
      • sustainable design
      • storm and sewer design
    • Under supervision write basic field inspections and technical reports
    • Develop routine mechanical drawings with draftsperson
    • Conduct site evaluations and inspections with the support of senior staff
    • Participate in facility evaluations and assist in technical report writing
    • Under supervision complete design and spec drawings
    • Under supervision design routine mechanical details, and write technical specifications.
    • Actively perpetuate and embody WEC culture and values.
    • Employees are required to adhere to the company and client safety policies and practices in effect at any given time.

    Education

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
    • EIT status with APEGA and/or EGBC
    • Working towards a P.Eng.

    Qualifications

    • Good interpersonal skills; a person who listens well, respects diversity of opinions and has an open, clear and succinct communication style.
    • Effective organizational and time management skills in handling multiple projects, performing a variety of tasks, and meeting required deadlines.
    • Ability to represent the company to the staff, clients and community by ensuring the best image is presented.
    • Application knowledge of WEC systems and programs (including MS Office, AutoCAD, Revit MEP).
    • Build an understanding of engineering calculations with accurate, clear design notes.
    • Understanding the ethical application of technical work.
    • Understand HVAC criteria and apply it to industrial structures.
    • Understand local, provincial and national codes, regulations and guidelines affecting design and construction.
    • Work towards a competency in engineering calculations with accurate, clear design notes.
    • Understand the process for tracking correspondence and work method preparation.
    • Able to interpret; basic multi disciplinary drawings, basic plan and profile drawings.
