    Position Purpose: Working closely with the Project Manager, assisting on various projects, and contributing to the technical competence and production requirements of the discipline. Provides exceptional customer service and coordination assistance with internal and external project partners (consultants, contractors, etc.).


    Specific Responsibilities Include:

    • Work with the Team lead/ Project Manager/ Engineering Manager in providing our clients with finished projects in a timely manner.
    • Communicate effectively with the Project Manager; this includes collecting and coordinating useful information.
    • Maintain a working relationship with other staff.
    • Participate in discussions with client, as required.
    • Interpret basic architectural and process drawings.
    • Review shop drawings.
    • Under supervision examine structural systems to satisfy architectural and process requirements.
    • Under supervision, make technical decisions on routine projects.
    • Write basic field inspections and technical reports.
    • Under supervision, prepare engineering design, specification and/or recommendations for a variety of concrete, masonry, steel, and timber structures.
    • Understand and apply the following CSA standards: A23.1, A23.2, A23.3, S16-01, S304.1.
    • Develop routine structural drawings with draftsperson.
    • Develop and apply appropriate load criteria for structures.
    • Under supervision by a senior staff member conduct facility evaluations.
    • Under supervision write basic field inspections and technical reports
    • Gain an understanding of quality control.
    • Actively perpetuate and embody WEC culture and values.
    • Employees are required to adhere to the company and client safety policies and practices in effect at any given time.


    • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
    • Registered E.I.T. Status through APEGA
    • Working towards a P.Eng
    • Experience in buildings engineering consulting would be considered an asset


    • Good interpersonal skills; a person who listens well, respects diversity of opinions and has an open, clear and succinct communication style.
    • Effective organizational and time management skills in handling multiple projects, performing a variety of tasks, and meeting required deadlines.
    • Ability to represent the company to the staff, clients and community by ensuring the best image is presented.
    • Application knowledge of programs (including Vision, MS Office, AutoCAD, Revit).
    • Competency in report writing, routine structural details, and technical specification writing under supervision.
    • Ability to relate 2-dimensional drawings to 3-dimensional spaces.
    • Develop an understanding of document control and structural design details.
    • Understanding of ethical application of technical work.
    • Work towards competency in engineering calculations with accurate, clear design notes.
    • Proven competency to design routine structural elements and to identify design process.
    • Becoming familiar with and understand application of CSA standards: A23.1, A23.2, A23.3, S16-01, S304.1.
    • Understand the process for tracking correspondence and work method preparation.
    • Able to interpret; basic multi disciplinary drawings, basic plan and profile drawings.
